GOLDFISH (Alternative)
When a musician's been in the business for a while, that person will have seen and participated in lots of events and knows that there are probably two different ways of dealing with his or her situation: one either allows oneself to become putty in the hands of some big company, doing their bidding, or one decides to take a risk with a little bit of help from some friends and make the music one wants to make.
Goldfish have managed to remain true to themselves with a healthy dose of recklessness.

SONORA MILAGROSA (Globalbeatz)
... provides a new dimension to sound, the effect of the socio-cultural phenomena known as globalisation. The members of this band were born in different corners of the globe. A stroke of fate brought them together here, in Berlin: they share the same principles, ideas and a passion for music. Sonora Milagrosa's inspiration comes from the roots of music all cultures everywhere powered by electronic sounds. Traditional Latin-American, Caribbean, Middle and Far Eastern, Balkan, Mediterranean, African and Indian rhythms are combined, as is common in contemporary electronic music, mixed with drum&bass, dub step, breakbeat, electro and techno.
Their music relays a message of social justice and positive change.

FORMELWESEN (audiovisual pop extravaganza)
Snippets of bass are audible. Hesitant sounds, nervous stumbling that marks the time. Formelwesen rushes in, breaking the silence, the drum creating a sound landscape that, delicate and detailed, seems as if it's making a suggestion, while a bass clarinet and guitar sounds can be heard. The music is captured on one's retina, whirring, like a crystal clear feeling. Then, a creature in a flower print dress appears on stage, moving its gargantuan mouth electronically as if it was an instrument. Now at the latest, it becomes clear that, when listening to Formelwesen, jazz is anything but an event where you sit attentively, nodding as you follow the sounds and, occasionally yawning in the cloakroom.
Formelwesen grooves and rocks – creaking, limping, rough soul from an odd creature that loves a good show and an audience. |

Quixote (Rock Avant Garde)
Landing in Berlin after leaving London‘s smoggy streets, Quixote‘s English contingent adopted a few new faces and quickly set roots in the comparative madness of Germany‘s capital.
There's something beautiful about it's melancholy but equally so in it's chaos and it's occasional lapses of violence. It's influences are loosely rooted in a dark blues which has been so well rendered by people such as Nick Cave and Tom Waits, but it's decorated by so many different colours from rock, avant garde, even punk. Maybe it's a soundtrack to the life of a twisted street bum who finds love in the garbage. Maybe it's not.
„Quixote are a genuinely exciting prospect - enchanting and haunting vocals, music that delves into a long forgotten beauty riddled with violent outbursts, and songwriting that ambles between alternative rock and the avant garde.“ (Tom Smith, Gobshout magazine) |
